Queensland legend Darius Boyd has put himself forward as a candidate for the vacant Queensland Maroons head coaching position, signalling his interest in taking on one of rugby league's most high-profile and demanding roles.

Boyd, widely regarded as one of the great Maroons players of his generation, acknowledged the position carries enormous pressure — describing it as a "pressure cooker" job — but indicated he is open to the challenge of leading Queensland in State of Origin.

The Maroons coaching role is currently vacant, and Boyd's public expression of interest makes him a notable name in the conversation surrounding who will next take charge of the Queensland side.
