James Hird has come out swinging against suggestions that Adelaide Crows coach Matthew Nicks is facing the sack if the club falls at Saturday night's elimination final, labelling the speculation "absolutely ridiculous."
The AFL great pushed back firmly on the notion that a single finals loss should be enough to put Nicks's position under serious threat, making clear he views the scrutiny as well out of proportion.
The Crows face an all-or-nothing clash this weekend, with their season on the line in the elimination final. Despite the high stakes, Hird's intervention signals that at least some prominent voices in the game believe the pressure being applied to Nicks is unwarranted and premature.
