Parents across Australia are being urged to check their medicine cabinets after Key-Sun Laboratories issued a nationwide recall of its Kids Honey and Eucalyptus + Acerola Lozenges (54g) following reports that small metal wires were found inside the products.
What Products Are Affected by the Key Sun Kids Recall?
The primary product caught up in the recall is the Key-Sun Kids Honey and Eucalyptus + Acerola Lozenges (54g), with the recall applying specifically to packs marked with a use-by date of June 2028. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) confirmed the product poses a risk due to potential foreign matter — namely, metal — being present inside the lozenges.
Beyond this product, and in agreement with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Key-Sun has extended the recall to cover affected batches of other lozenges produced at the same manufacturing facility during 2025. Those additional batches carry expiry dates ranging from February 2028 through to January 2029. The company has stated that no other batches of Key Sun Kids Homeopathic Products are involved in the recall.
How the Problem Was Discovered
The recall was triggered after two customers independently reported finding small metal wires inside lozenges they had purchased. Key-Sun believes the wires most likely became embedded in the products during the manufacturing process at the affected facility.
The recalled lozenges were stocked at pharmacies and chemists across New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia, and were also available for online purchase in NSW.
Health Risks and Safety Warnings
Key-Sun has outlined the potential dangers clearly. According to the company, if a small metal wire is present in a lozenge, "this could result in a child cutting their mouth." More seriously, any metal fragments that are swallowed could cause damage to the digestive tract and present a choking hazard.
Consumers are strongly advised not to use any of the recalled products. Those who have already purchased the affected lozenges should return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone who has concerns about their health — or their child's health — following consumption of the product is encouraged to seek medical advice promptly.
