A major manhunt is underway in Melbourne after a 28-year-old man narrowly escaped being shot when a gunman ambushed him in the driveway of his Greenvale home on Tuesday evening. The terrifying attack unfolded on Galileo Place at around 5:50pm, just as the man returned home from work.
Dramatic Driveway Ambush Caught on Camera
Security cameras from neighbouring properties captured the full sequence of the brazen attack. Footage shows a dark-coloured vehicle slowly pulling up to the home as the man arrives. As the victim walks toward his front door, a front-seat passenger steps out of the car, rushes toward him, and opens fire at close range.
Video from a second angle shows the 28-year-old desperately weaving to avoid the shots as he flees for his life. Remarkably, he was not struck by any of the bullets fired at him. A neighbour who witnessed the attack rushed outside to assist and could be heard shouting warnings to other residents in the street to stay indoors as the gunman fled the scene.
While the intended target escaped unharmed, one bullet did strike a family home at the end of the street, authorities confirmed.
Police Describe Attack as Targeted and Deliberate
Investigators believe the shooting was not random — describing it as a targeted attack and expressing disbelief that the victim walked away without injury. The incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness given the number of shots fired in a residential area.
This appears to be the second time in recent weeks the young man has been targeted. It is understood that just weeks before the shooting, his family's car was deliberately firebombed in a late-night attack — raising serious concerns about who may be behind the escalating threats against him and why.
Authorities Appeal for Public Help
Police are now appealing to the public as the manhunt for those responsible continues. Anyone who witnessed the shooting, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around Galileo Place at the time of the attack, is urged to come forward and contact police as soon as possible.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been announced at this stage. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or disclosed a possible motive for the repeated targeting of the victim.
