A 57-year-old motorbike rider has been killed in an alleged hit-and-run crash on the Great Western Highway at Katoomba, in the NSW Blue Mountains, after a white sedan struck him and fled the scene on Thursday evening.
The collision occurred at approximately 6.15pm, with emergency services responding swiftly. Despite paramedics' efforts, the rider could not be saved and died at the scene.
White Sedan Flees — Search Underway
Police allege the white sedan involved in the crash failed to stop and drove away, leaving the rider behind. A crime scene was established shortly after, and investigators are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
"A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway, with the assistance of the Crash Investigation Unit," NSW Police said in a statement.
The search for the vehicle and its driver remains ongoing. Westbound lanes of the Great Western Highway were closed following the crash, with authorities urging motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
