Rugby league icon Johnathan Thurston has unveiled the second piece of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games emblem, doing so from a landmark location deeply connected to his adopted home city.
Thurston made the reveal from the top of Castle Hill in Townsville, the distinctive rocky outcrop that towers over the north Queensland city where the NRL great made his name during his decorated career with the Cowboys.
The unveiling marks another step in the gradual rollout of the official emblem for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, with organisers choosing to reveal the design in stages. Thurston's involvement signals the Games' intent to celebrate Australian sporting culture and regional communities as part of its build-up to the event.
