An 18-year-old has died after jumping from a runaway horse carriage in New York, in what his father described as a desperate attempt to rescue his mother.
The incident began when a horse bolted from its driver, causing the carriage to careen out of control. The teenager's mother fell from the carriage during the incident, and the young man, identified as Romanch Mahajan, leaped out in an effort to reach her, according to his father.
Mahajan did not survive the fall. His mother's condition was not detailed in available information.
The circumstances surrounding the horse bolting and the full sequence of events remain under investigation. Authorities have not publicly confirmed further details about the incident at this stage.
