A 19-year-old woman from Jimboomba has been identified as one of four people shot during a brazen drive-by attack outside a south Brisbane pub last Saturday night. Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau was struck by gunfire in the head and neck while attending a boxing event at Fitzy's in Loganholme at approximately 8.15pm, and remains in a critical condition at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Her family has now spoken publicly, launching an emotional appeal for community support as they confront what they describe as "the uncertainty of what lies ahead."
What happened at Fitzy's in Loganholme
The 2026 Logan pub shooting unfolded during an intermission at a boxing event that had drawn more than 100 attendees, including families with young children. According to police allegations, a car pulled into the venue's drop-off zone before two men wearing balaclavas and gloves opened fire from the front passenger window. Four people in total were struck. A getaway vehicle was later found destroyed by fire.
Vana-Reese, who grew up in Logan and is described by her family as deeply embedded in the local community, was caught up in the attack as an innocent bystander. She was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, where she has remained since the incident.
Family's heartbreak and fundraising appeal
Describing themselves using the Maori term whanau, meaning extended family, Vana-Reese's relatives say she is surrounded by love as they wait anxiously for news of her recovery.
"It is with broken hearts that our whanau share this message about our beautiful Vana-Reese," the family wrote in a fundraising appeal launched on Wednesday morning. "She is surrounded by the love of her whanau and those closest to her as we face the uncertainty of what lies ahead."
The family described Vana-Reese as holding "a special place in the hearts of so many" in the Logan and Brisbane community where she was born and raised. They said donations would help ease the financial pressure of medical and other unexpected costs, allowing them to remain focused on being together during what they called "difficult days ahead."
The fundraiser was set with a goal of $35,000. Within just six hours of going live, it had already attracted $27,503 in donations, reflecting an outpouring of community support for the young woman and her family.
Second victim's family also seeks support
Vana-Reese is not the only shooting victim whose family has turned to the community for help. Another person injured in the attack, identified only as Kane, has been left unable to work following the incident. His partner, Crystal Ollier, launched a separate fundraiser after people reached out wanting to know how they could assist.
"I have created this fundraiser for the people that are asking to donate as he's been left unable to work after being shot in the tragic events that unfolded on Saturday night in Logan," Ollier wrote in the appeal.
Ollier was quick to emphasise that the family was not seeking handouts, expressing gratitude that Kane survived and thanking those who had already reached out with concern and support. Despite setting a modest goal of just $50, the fundraiser had attracted $6,800 in donations by Tuesday.
Investigation ongoing
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. No charges or arrests have been publicly confirmed. The incident has shocked the broader Logan community, particularly given that children were among those present at the venue when the gunfire erupted.
Footage taken inside the pub in the immediate aftermath of the shooting circulated widely online in the days following the attack, adding to the public distress over what occurred at what was meant to be a family-friendly sporting event.
